Alias: Samira "Splice" Lehrer
Travelling: Adelaide "Ada" Laska
Born: Candace Bauer
Trainer Class Team Allele Scientist
Splice is rather short, coming in around 5' 3" with short legs and a longer torso. She has strong, thick muscles from working at the farm and otherwise travelling which are covered up by a layer of chub; not that she's complaining. She has a distinct hourglass figure, although one wouldn't necessarily be able to tell underneath the overalls, and can clean up when she really wants to. Her eyes are of a deep blue, indicative of her cold disposition which she tries so hard to keep a secret while travelling.
While in her lab or otherwise working on genetic business, Splice keeps in her labcoat, button-down shirt and work pants, which she has to get cleaned nearly every day due to the messy nature of her work. She keeps her hair in a very tight, neat bun at the back of her head, with only a few baby hairs out of place. She grooms her eyelashes to go out, giving her eyes a longer, thinner look, and wears dark lipstick which she often licks off during more intense tasks. She is often seen wearing the work-issued goggles, which tend to leave an indent around her eyes for hours afterwards.
While at home, whether doing research or relaxing, she rarely changes out of her work clothes, opting instead to stay in her button-down shirt and work pants. If her pants are excessively dirty she will put on a pair of sweatpants or jeans.
While travelling or shopping, she wears a long-sleeve flannel button-down and long jean overalls, keeping her hair down or in a braid. When she wears her hair down it's easy to see how much she destroys it while working with strange chemicals, as the ends are ratty and dead. During the hot season she will wear short overalls and push up the sleeves of her flannel, and if it's exceptionally hot she will tie her shirt to expose her stomach and cool off a bit. She doesn't don any makeup while travelling, deciding instead to stay natural so as to not attract suspicion.
Splice is obsessive, to say the least. She focuses on very few things while everything else around her can crumble to bits. She is incredibly knowledgeable about genetics, breeding and caretaking, and will bore the pants off of anybody that is foolish enough to discuss the topic with her, unless, of course, they're familiar with the terminology and actually interested. When people take the time to pay attention to the things she says, they realize she has some sick, awful interest in the splicing of more and more irregular pokemon. She will talk of the mixture of legendaries and non-legendaries, god-like pokemon and the lowliest Bidoof. When she gets really carried away she talks about human-pokemon splicing, but it may take a drink or two to get that theory out of her.
Outside of her obsession, Splice has very little personality. She's bland, has little to no opinions and will often lie just for fun. She may be a perfectionist in her research, but she's incredibly messy and inconsiderate outside the lab. Her home is littered with books with no organization and binders full of breeding and genetic information line four bookshelves in her study. She lives alone, thankfully, for if she were to have a roommate they wouldn't be able to handle her strange habits of sitting in her study on weeknights, yelling about what she reads.
On the weekends, though, Splice leaves the big city and travels under the alias of Ada Laska. Ada is just as bland as Splice, although possibly blander since she hides her genetic obsession. She plays dumb and she plays sweet, hopefully endearing to those she may happen upon. She will usually leave them alone and simply disappear on Sunday night back to Thyme City, although on occasion she has been known to try and steal a pokemon or two of theirs to use in her experiments.
Far from having multiple personality disorder, Splice simply likes to get away from the stressful life of being a Team Allele member. She will occasionally attend pokemon contests, watch a gym battle or appear at other social events. She may choose to go by one of her two aliases depending on whether a fellow Team Allele member is present, although she usually chooses Ada, simply because if a Team Allele member asks her why she can respond with "I'm undercover you idiot!"
Candace grew up on a very busy farm in Hoenn, located slightly to the south of Verdanturf Town. From a young age, her mother taught her how to care for the pokemon on their land, from the smallest wild Rattata to the Miltank they raised from their eggs. She was taught that all life is sacred and equal, that all life must be preserved and new life must be created. Her mother was always very gentle with her youngest daughter, patiently teaching her all she knew about breeding and caring for pokemon. Candace was eager to please her mother and excelled at breeding, not paying much attention to other facets of farm life, including the daily chores her many siblings had to do to support themselves. This lead to her siblings being impatient with her, bossing her around, frustrating and confusing her. Whenever one of her siblings would say something rude to her, she would go to her mother and cry, while at the same time being reassured of her gift by her caring and soft mother. She was her security blanket, the threads that held her together through the perceived jealousy of her siblings.
Candace, through all her knowledge of caring and healing, never quite realized her mother was very sick. Her mother never told anyone of the pain she experienced down to her bones; they would never be able to afford the medicine to treat her, and she simply couldn't torture her family with her slow death. She continued to care for her family and the farm animals, continued to teach Candace so she could carry on the farm, until she wasn't able to get out of bed any longer. It wasn't long after that she finally passed with a slight smile on her face, happy to be surrounded by family, happy that she had taught all her children to care for the living and for the dying alike.
Candace was wrought with guilt over her mother's death. She laid in bed for months, berating herself for never seeing that her mother was getting sicker and sicker. Hindsight always clears our senses, but Candace refused to admit that she had nothing to do with her mother's death. She spent the most time with her, she always knew when her mother was resting, how could she never have noticed that she needed to rest much more often as time went on? As time went on she was being trusted to do more things independent of her mother, with less supervision, how come she didn't put the pieces together?
Her siblings, though sad that their wonderful mother was dead, finished mourning long before Candace. Candace didn't understand how on earth they could have moved on already, but tried her hardest to continue with her farming duties. Determined to continue her mother's work, she returned to breeding and caring for the pokemon.
Her siblings started out with tolerance toward their sister, with empathy for her pain and patience for her healing. A few years passed though, and they lost these feelings. She had enough time to get over her mother, this was pure laziness. They didn't understand, though, that she wasn't lazy. She was obsessed. She was obsessed with breeding, with passing on her mother's knowledge. She cared very little for the rest of the farm.
Once her siblings began to pester her to do her other duties as a caretaker of the farm, Candace, rather than understanding her sibling's frustration with her, believed them to be crude, lower beings which didn't feel pain like she did. The more they asked her to do her chores, the more she refused to do them. They would tell her to stop breeding the Rapidash and to clean out the barn, instead she would research breeding techniques and breed the Rapidash more successfully. They would tell her to stop brushing the Grumpig and to go into town for supplies, instead she would research grooming techniques and pamper the Grumpig. Her decided rebellion slowly turned into an obsession with breeding and caretaking. Her room was littered with textbooks, textbooks covered her bookcases and were stacked to the ceiling. Pages with passages she found particularly fascinating were ripped out and put into a binder, often highlighted with notes in the margins.
Candace finally scared her siblings enough for them to stop asking her to do her chores when she bred two pokemon that don't normally breed: a Miltank and a Solosis. Her eldest brother found the creature in the stable while he was sweeping and ran out, screaming about a Miltank with no mouth immersed in a green goo. When confronted about it, Candace admitted she was behind the monstrosity. Her siblings were shocked, their sweet, caring sister had turned into a madman.
It wasn't long before Team Allele learned of Candace's experiments and sent a representative to meet with her. They asked about her pokemon and, rather than describe, she brought them to the stable her siblings set aside for her and showed them her disgusting experiments. By this time she had accumulated many more strange pokemon: a Rattata with jewels for eyes and jewels on its stomach and back; a white and blue Kangaskhan with a shell in its pouch; and a blue Audino with a large flower on its head were some of her more notable creations.
Impressed, the representative offered her a place among the geneticists at Team Allele. Candace quickly accepted; her mother's legacy could continue in a large organization, and possibly even be immortal through Team Allele. She left her family behind, taking all of her textbooks and experiments, and relocated to Thyme City in Kuhre. She was happy to be there, happy to help the scientists discover which DNA could stably be spliced and which pokemon could be forced to breed to create crossbreeds, rather than simply passing on the female pokemon's species. It was all incredibly fascinating and strangely fulfilling. She became uncomfortable with her name, knowing that it tied herself back to her unemotional family, and asked those she spoke with to refer to her as "Splice", and if they were to be as tactless as to ask for her real name, she would tell them Samira.
The only thing Splice was unhappy about with her new life was the big city. She found herself wishing to leave, wishing to explore. Splice put on her old overalls and left Thyme City on the weekends, slowly venturing farther and farther into the wilderness. She discovered quickly that nobody would talk to her if she admitted she was a Team Allele member, so she would hide that fact and act very innocent. She would play stupid and act very sweet to anybody who didn't know she was part of Team Allele. Now leading a double life, Spkuce found herself finally happy, although on occasion she would steal a strong pokemon from another trainer to see how she could breed it.
Occasionally she will use her double life to spy for Team Allele, speaking with trainers about plans to take down her employer. She will then communicate this information to her superiors; she will have nobody damaging her mother's legacy.
